Nutrition and their Properties
Our body works like a machine. It needs all the maintenance throughout lifetime.So its fuels and lubricants are provided by a balance diet. It should have all the necessary nutrients in the right amount to work properly. Lack of these nutrients can cause serious illness or health problems. The questions arises: What are nutrients? and how to get them?. Nutrients are the compounds in food that are important and essential for a healthy body. They provide us with energy, repairs our body and plays a vital role in growth and keep all bodily functions proper and accurate.
There are six major nutrients:
Carbohydrates are called energy giving food. It provide power to the body in order to complete daily tasks. Wheat, Rice, Potatoes, bread are rich source of carbohydrates.
They are body building food. It repairs wear and tear of our body. Lentils Beans, chickpeas, chicken, meat, fish and eggs provide us proteins.
These are also energy giving foods. They give twice energy as compare to carbohydrates but fats are needed in small quantities. These includes oil, butter, margarine and cream.
Vitamins and Minerals:
Vitamins & Minerals are essential for running body functions smoothly. Fruits, vegetables and milk are rich in vitamins.
An average person should drink 8 glasses of water daily. It helps the body to remove toxins. It also supports organs to function properly.
To follow portion control. we have to eat from all food groups in a given quantity. It fulfills all the deficiencies of nutrients. Giving our body a healthy boost.
